Review: Arteza Professional Coloured Pencils - Set of 120

Hi everyone! Arteza asked me to review some of their new products. One of them is their new Professional Coloured Pencils (set of 120). These pencils come in a nice tin box with a hinged lid. All the colours and their information are listed at the bottom of the tin as well as the inside of the lid.

Arteza sells this set of pencils for $69.99 which works out as $0.58 per pencil. The pencils looks similar to those of their older set (set of 72) but with a wider colour range. The quality of the pencils are very good; solid and strong. The pencils have a rounded bottom with the lightfastness of each colour indicated on the side.

I made a colour chart using a Arteza's sketchbook paper. I was surprised at how smooth and soft the pencils were compared to their previous set of 72 that I tried last year. Some of the colours from the previous set are included here but I noticed that those colours are now more vibrant. I also found that the pencils are creamier and softer than they were before. The pencils colour evenly on paper and are easy to blend. As for opacity, when using them on a painted surface such as gouache or watercolour, they performed quite well. A few of the lighter colours such as white and cream were not as opaque as I want them to be.

The pencil cores are very sturdy and I didn't have any breakage while sharpening them. I also found that they are easy to sharpen and I was able to maintain a very pointed tip which is good for details.

The colour range the set offer is really wide and varied. There are a lot of beautiful colour additions to the set including shimmery ones such as unicorn purple, dreamy blue and gold.

In conclusion, I think that these coloured pencils are good value and quality. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros

- Vibrant colours.

- Good range of colours in the set

- Creamy, soft and blend well.

- Affordable price.

- Durable core: no breakage, able to hold pointed end even with heavy pressure.

- Good quality case and packaging.

Cons

- Few light colours are not as opaque when used on coloured surfaces.

- The pencils are currently only available in a set and cannot be purchased individually.
